MIDWEST CITY — The next city manager in Midwest City will be a familiar face. After spending nearly 19 years with the city, Assistant City Manager Tim Lyon will be promoted to city manager on June 13.
Lyon’s career in Midwest City started in 2000 as the director of human resources. In April 2007, he was promoted to assistant city manager. Before coming to Midwest City, Lyon was the deputy director of the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma. He also worked for the Center for Local Government Technology at Oklahoma State University and the city of Edmond.
The Midwest City Council unanimously approved the contract with Lyon at its April 23 meeting.
As assistant city manager, Lyon has been responsible for the operations of emergency management, fire, neighborhood services, finance, risk management and safety, the city clerk’s office, municipal court and juvenile services, as well as the city prosecutor’s office and the city attorney. He also supervises fleet services and the Sheraton Hotel at the Reed Conference Center.
Lyon and his wife, Rhonda, have lived in Midwest City for the past 19 years. They have two adult children. Their son, Zach, is a firefighter in Stillwater, and daughter, Shauna, is finishing the registered nursing program at Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City.
